Where the Remove Punctuation helps in real life

You want to analyze the most common words in 300 customer reviews. Removing punctuation stops “great!” and “great” being counted as different words.

A developer cleans user search input before matching it against a list of product keywords.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Removing apostrophes and changing word meanings.
• Joining words together when punctuation was the only separator.
• Applying it to text meant for reading.
• Removing symbols needed for data, like decimal points.

💡 Practical tip: Removing punctuation also removes decimal points, so “3.5” becomes “35” — check numbers afterwards.

Tips for better results

• Use it for analysis, not final writing.
• Check decimal numbers after cleaning.
• Combine with word frequency tools.
